Sale Sports News - February 2013

TWO YEAR FREEZE ON BAR PRICES

The club can confirm an inflation busting price freeze on members bar prices following a renegotiation of our contract with Marston’s.  We did not pass on the 2.8% increase in beer duty in the March 2012 budget to members and have now improved our brewery deal meaning we can guarantee that we will not increase draught beer prices until February 2014, a freeze of two years!

On top of this we have REDUCED prices on spirits and mixers.  Measures of vodka, gin and Bacardi have been increased to 35ml, with the price frozen at £2.10 and baby mixers are now 20p cheaper.  Also look out for specials on house spirits.

CLUB DEVELOPMENT

We are progressing with a project to look at how we can improve our facilities, both the clubhouse and a facility that hockey and football can use in Sale, as two of the biggest costs to the club are maintaining the house and pitch hire fees.

We have done a lot so far using volunteers and favours, but we now have to start spending real money on professional fees. To take this forward we need your help, we are asking individuals and the sections committees to run their own fund raising events. If any members are entering an event (such as a run or bike ride), please consider donating some of your sponsorship to our development fund. You can split with any charity you choose. We have Sale Sports Club Just Giving web page set up and it’s really easy to create your own sponsorship page from it.

THE CLUB NEEDS YOU

The club council recognises that we need to do more to improve communication with members and reflect the increased importance of technology and social media.  We are seeking two volunteers to help us.

We have created a new role on the council of Communications Officer to lead on this area; further details are here.  We are also looking for an Assistant Membership Secretary, this role is not to chase members, but to look after our membership database and ensure it is up to date.  Both roles will require a good bit of IT knowledge and some spare time, but the rest can be picked up along the way!  If you are interested please contact Rob Moore, the Club President, or speak to your section representative.

COUNTY CRICKET AT SALE IN 2013

The club has secured some plumb cricket fixtures for the coming season, the highlight being the County 2nd XI clash between Cheshire Development and Lancashire 2nd XI on 6th June.  We are also hosting Cheshire under 13’s and Cheshire under 14’s.

There will be more good quality cricket to watch during the week as Manchester University Men’s and Ladies 1st XI’s will be playing at Sale on a Wednesday afternoon.

WELCOME TO TIM AND ASH

TIM HAYWARD and ASHLEY WEBSTER both join the club this month.  Please give them a warm Sale welcome.

Tim is taking over as Coaching and Development Officer from Rick Halkon, doing vital outreach work in the local schools as well as running our successful holiday camps.  He has recently relocated to Manchester from Hastings where he worked as a sports coach at a private school.  He is a UKCC2 coach in both Hockey and Cricket.

Ash is our new Head Tennis Coach, having returned to Manchester from a spell as Regional Tennis Director for the US Sports Institute, his appointment promises to bring an expanded programme of coaching, match play and social activities for minis, juniors and seniors alike.  He is a LTA Level 3 coach and is working towards his level 4 Senior Club Coach Award.  His previous coaching has included David Lloyd's, as well as working for Andrew Fisher (former coach of Heather Watson at the time of her winning junior Wimbledon) and Peter McCraw (Sharapova's former coach).

Details of the new tennis programme can be found here, with details of the holiday camps to follow soon.
