Christleton 77 all out (31 overs)
Sale 78-1 (13.4 overs)
Sale win by 9 wickets
The second round of matches in the Vivio Cheshire County Cricket League saw two outstanding all-round performances for Search sponsored Sale Cricket Club. Tyrone Lawrence led Sale 1st XI to the top of division 1 and Matt Millward delivered a career best performance for the 2nd XI.
Sale 1st XI made short work of their trip to picturesque Christleton, blasting the home side out for just 77. Christleton chose to bat first, but were soon in trouble as stand-in captain Lawrence ran through their line up taking 8 wickets for 47 runs. Only Kiwi Renwick (43) showed any resistance as Lawrence and Rick Halkon (2-28) bowled unchanged.
Sale made short work of the reply, knocking off the total for the loss of one wicket inside 14 overs. Ian Dixon (26 not out) and that man Lawrence (46 not out) shared a 66 run partnership that saw Sale go 12 points clear at the top of the table.
Sale 2nd XI could only manage a winning draw at home to Congleton. Matt Millward made the most of another outstanding wicket at Dane Road scoring the first century of the season for Sale. He followed up his 114 not out with 4-43 with the ball as Congleton reached 174-7 in pursuit of Sale’s 236-3 declared. Millward was supported by Rob Merga (55 not out).
On Sunday the 2nd XI beat Bollington by 9 wickets in the T20 cup (Vic Sunderamanie 52, Dan Osborne 51 not out) and the 3rd XI lost narrowly to Cheadle Hulme.
Next weekend the 1st XI host Oxton, whilst the 2nd XI travel to the Wirral for the reverse fixture.
