We did it! The LTA initiative of Tennis for Kids has been a great success at Sale Tennis Club. We ran two classes, simultaneously, for up to 20 children aged between 4 and 8. Many of the children had never played before but we aim was to give them a really exciting course to stimulate their imaginations and hopefully a love for tennis. Each week we tried a series of exercises, teaching and encouraging the children to play, have fun and by the end of the short course, a number of children were successfully playing the ball across the net and some had captured the rudiments of serving. Of course, we got carried away and started getting the parents in on the act. As a coach and a parent, this was the magic piece for me. Some parents were natural coaches. Others struggled a little but by listening, adapting and working together, parent and child could learn new skills.
At the end of the course, the students were presented with rackets and a ball. Now they can work on their skills at home, in the park and a number have already asked about the summer tennis camps the next course w/s 5th Sept.
