1st XI lose to Promotion Favourites Hyde
Sale Cricket Club 1st XI failed to follow up their opening day win against recent premier league champions Hyde on Saturday. Sale lost their Vivio Cheshire County League division one encounter by 107 runs to the promotion favourites.

Search sponsored Sale hoped to capitalise on a wet wicket following recent heavy rain after asking the visitors to bat first, but found Cheshire regular Danny Berry in fine form as he reached 40 off just 52 balls in what would prove to be a decisive contribution.

First change bowler Ali Barrowman made the breakthrough, taking two wickets to reduce Hyde to 73-2 at drinks.

Sale kept taking wickets at regular intervals as Rich Adams took two middle order wickets and a fine spell of left arm spin from Ben Watkins yielded 3 wickets for 22 runs as Hyde closed on 168-8.  Chris Canning was in fine form behind the stumps with 5 victims.

A target of 169 would normally be well below par but the wet wicket combined with Hyde’s minor counties attack proved too much for the home batsmen.

Tyrone Lawrence top scored with 15 as Jason Whittaker (6-19) and Danny Cranmer (3-20) routed the home side for 61.

The 2nd XI match due to be played at Bramhall was cancelled on Friday due to a flooded pitch.

On Sunday the 3rd XI continued their winning start in the T20 cup with a comfortable win against Hale Barns.  With the Hale Barns ground under water the match was switched to Sale.

Sid Bahaduri made the breakthrough in the first over after the visitors elected to bat first, with Shah Zeb soon getting into the action removing the other opener.

Shane Osborne (2-15) and Moh Rizvi (3-18) controlled the middle overs, reducing Hal Barns to 73-8.  A late flurry from James Fullerton-Batten (22 off 21 balls), got the score past 100 before Zeb returned to bowl the visitors out for 108.

Despite losing Viraj Sorathia without scoring Sale reached their target with ease, Moh Rizvi (pictured above by George Franks) and Arshad Muhammad adding 96 for the 2nd wicket.

When Muhammad was caught for 41 Sale only needed 5 runs to win. Rizvi soon hit the winning runs to finish 43 not out and secure an 8 wicket victory.

On Wednesday the Silverbacks start their over 40s season at Brooklands, on Saturday the 1st XI travel to new comers Barrow and the 2nd XI welcome Stockport Georgians to Dane Road, and on Sunday the 3rd XI entertain Alderley Edge and the 4th XI start their season at Woodley 3’s. Bank holiday Monday sees the 3rd XI play their final T20 cup match at home to Hyde.

Sale Sparks u13’s - 298
Didsbury Diamonds u13’s - 273

The Sale Girls u13’s team played their first match of the season away at Didsbury Diamonds on Monday evening and began with a solid victory.

Batting first, Sale got off to a flying start with Elisabeth Mansfield plundering several boundaries in her 18 runs. Momentum was maintained by Gracie Burt in the middle order who hit a fine straight drive to the boundary, whilst Isabelle Beaumont played a controlled innings and played very straight. Captain Amy Seddon (23) and Lucy Dodds (20) blasted their way to a 43-run partnership in 4 overs, helping the team to post a very competitive score.

In reply, Didsbury were always behind the required run rate. Ava Beaumont and Kiko Tazaki-Quayle bowled very tidily, Kiko being very unlucky not to take a wicket when the ball passed through the batter’s stumps! Jessica Parish kept up the pressure with a fine spell of accurate bowling and Ava Beaumont took a well-deserved wicket. The Sparks fielded with great enthusiasm and merited their fine victory. The match was played in a superb spirit throughout and all players from both teams were a credit to their clubs.
