1st XI Slip Up Against Davenham

1st XI Slip Up Against Davenham
Sale 1st XI failed to follow up last week’s win with another inconsistent performance against Davenham on Saturday.  Sale fell 30 runs short in their Vivio Cheshire County league division one encounter.
With an unusual 9.30am start to accommodate the World Cup quarter final Search sponsored Sale asked the visitors to bat first.
James Loveridge (33) and Ben Gough (38) made a confident start, but the loss of 6 wickets either side of the drinks break put Sale in control.  Ben King took 3-28 on his return from injury and Isaac Brooks 2-25.
The Davenham tail then wagged as Mike Sambell (23) and Oli Gallager (24 not out) marshalled the score up to 161-7.
Sale made a confident start to their innings, Joe Cannon hitting 20 as score reached 43-1.  However a similar mid order collapse saw Sale slump to 78-6.
Ryan Burgess (22) and Rick Halkon (27 – pictured above by George Franks) led the fightback, but Sale were finally bowled out for 131 with 8 overs to spare.
Sale 2nd XI had an even earlier start, travelling to Tattenhall for a 9.30am start.  They got off to a great start taking 3 early wickets, before the home side recovered to post 262-8, Gareth Watterson the pick with 3-39.
In reply Jamal Benzafar (36) and Viraj Sorathia (39) got Sale off to a good start, but as Sale fell behind the required rate they batted out for a draw at 187-8.
On Sunday the 3rd XI lost at Alderley Edge after posting 185-6, Asad Khan (43) and James Dodds (22).  Alderley coasted home after tea for the loss of 2 wickets.
The 4th had a good win at home to Hyde 4s, skipper Iain Harrop leading the way with 56 not out chasing down the visitors 139-7.  Ibraheem Shareef (20 not out) and Theo Brodbeck (20) backed up the skipper.
Earlier in the week the Silverbacks lost to north-east over 40’s champions elect Urmston.  Ian Holland (25 not out) showing the top order how to do it as Sale posted a below par 88-8.  Urmston coasted home for the loss of 1 wicket.
Next week the 1st XI visit Hyde and the 2nd XI welcome Bramhall to Dane Road.  On Sunday the 3rd XI travel to Hyde and the 4th XI visit Bowdon.
Under 15s (137 for 3, 20 overs) beat South West Manchester (107 for 8), friendly, Sunday 8th July 2018
Sale under 15s had a well-earned win on Sunday. Put in to bat, Sale reached 137 for 3 thanks to a terrific partnership between Anudarshi Majumdar (43 with 4 fours) and Theo Brodbeck (49 not out, 5 fours), ably assisted by a cameo from Jack Brassell (20 not out, 3 fours).
In reply, opening bowler Ghani (2 for 3 from 3 overs) struck immediately with his pacey yorkers, taking two wickets in consecutive balls in the first over. Mashin fought back for SW Manchester hitting 8 fours in his 44 before a remarkable over from Adam Downs (3 for 10 from 2 overs) saw three wickets fall – all clean bowled – and the heart of the opposition was ripped out. The game trickled to an end with youngsters at the crease and Hamdan, Callum Ross and Theo chipping in with late wickets.
Sale Sparks beat Brooklands for a second time in their final league game of the season (see team above).
