This Autumn the Club has continued it’s Development Group Training programme at Sale Grammar School.
This Autumn the sessions have been split into 3 groups with other 30 junior cricketers participating. The aim of the Group is to work on technique and equip junior cricketers to progress into senior cricket. The sessions have been well attended and all participants have impressed the coaches with their attitude, behaviour and commitment. We have also been fortunate that Chris Murphy first team coach and first team players Isaac Brooks and Dan Newton contributed to the sessions. The coaches have prioritised batting technique this Autumn, and have also worked on fielding. The sessions have used scenarios and discussions to prompt tactical awareness and ensure training balances technical and tactical content. Points covered have included -
Batting - head position, playing late, strong wrists, positive footwork, defending straight balls, not giving away your wicket, leaving the ball, hitting into gaps to increase pressure on the fielding team, scoring options and rotating the strike, communication, running between the wickets (calling, running the first run hard), options for playing spin.
Fielding - attacking the ball, throwing technique, communication, field positions and options, walking in (then back into position), mental aspects (when to switch on/switch off), the importance of building pressure on batters by fielding effectively, fielding as a team/unit.
Intensity and pace have been increased during the sessions to test learning points.
The Club extends its thanks to parents for supporting the sessions, and all coaches who have worked hard to make them a success - Chris, Mark, Chris, Isaac and Dan. Special thanks are due to Ian Habershon, and the group has benefitted greatly from Ian’s playing experience and tactical observations over the course of the sessions.
