Sale hosted the prestigious representative fixture between Lancashire 2nd XI and Cheshire Development XI on Thursday 6th June, a match that yielded 551 runs and produced a last over win for Cheshire. Sale bowler Taz Tharsan made his debut for Cheshire.
The awarding of this match was the culmination of many years hard work from the club to improve the facilities, including the relaying of the entire square in 2007. The quality of the wicket was praised by both sides and we hope to see more games of this stature in the future.
The match winning performance for Cheshire came from Alderley Edge’s Charlie Reid, who scored 107 and took 2-38, as they chased down Lancashire’s score of 275-9.
Cheshire did well to peg Lancashire back to 275 in 45 overs after regular 1st teamer Luke Proctor scored a fluent 88 and Arron Lilley struck 78.
In a well paced reply Reid received good support from Ross Dixon (38) of Chester and Adam Roylance (32) of Grappenhall, and despite a run out in the last over Cheshire got home with one ball to spare to achieve a famous victory.
