Sixteen year old Sale bowler Johnathan Dickens achieved a very rare feat on Saturday, taking 5 wickets in 5 balls against local rivals Timperley. Playing for Sale 3rd XI he bowled all 5 victims and finished with incredible figures of 2 overs, 1 maiden, 6 wickets for 4 runs.
It capped a day in which the Sale side dominated. In a total of 223-0 declared, both Mark Almond and Cheshire Under 14’s all-rounder Harry Stepney scored unbeaten centuries. Dickens then dispatched Timperley in short order, as they were bowled out for 71.
His amazing feat created a new record for Sale, beating Gary Saunders’ record of 4 wickets in 4 balls in the 1990’s.
In truth the 3rd XI were just glad to get a game of cricket, having had 9 out of the previous 13 games cancelled due to the poor weather this season.
